Color trends are something home stagers approach cautiously. While they may be all the rage in magazines they can sometimes be so trendy that when used in the home they can be rather polarizing. Nevertheless, as people who love color in general, those in the homestaging industry certainly keep an eye on them.
Every year in December two major color authorities, Pantone and Sherwin Williams, choose colors they to be the ‘Colors of the Year’. It’s something those in all kinds of niches – from home staging and home decorating to fashion to furniture design and more, pay attention to.
As 2020 also spells the start of a new decade, the focus on these year-end choices is even greater this year. But what has been chosen and are any of the colors suitable for use in Houston home staging? Let’s take a look.
Pantone’s Color of the Year 2020: Classic Blue
Over the last several years the Pantone Color of the Year has tended to be very bright and hard to use in home staging, which calls for softer, more neutral colors. Take a look at the chart above, detailing the colors from past years. They are all very bold, and for the most part on suitable (perhaps) for an accent piece at most.
2020 is different, as the Pantone Color of the Year is Classic Blue, a familiar, calming shade that may make a great accent wall in a home office or living room.
There is a reason that the company has moved away from the bolder colors of the past. “When we look at the world around us, we know that we’re living with a lot of unrest, where some days we don’t feel quite as secure,” Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the company’s Color Institute explains. “Blue, from an emotional, psychological standpoint, has always represented a certain amount of calm and dependability. It’s a color that you can rely on.” And that may be true, in moderation, in Houston home staging.
Sherwin Williams 2020 Color Trends Palette
For 2020 paint experts Sherwin Williams have chosen a whole color palette, with one color, First Light, chosen as their Color of the Year. You can see it in full below.
There are some beautiful colors in this palette, including some stunning neutrals that will be perfect for 2020 Houston home staging. The primary choice, First Light, is a warm wash of very soft pink that is not too feminine but not too cold. You can see it ‘action’, along with some of the other shades, in the video below.
